Removal of humans

Just a thought: Does anyone recall when you could go to the phone company and talk to a human about your bill? It did happen at one time.

Interestingly, in the late 1970s, telephone companies utterly removed customers from their business. Today, you can't pay your bill to the telephone company anywhere in the United States. And this was accomplished with not one peep of protest from anyone. They didn't even mention it to anyone. They just stopped having a storefront.

Although I agree that telephone companies don't feature one on one service, (and I appreciate your post on my blog, welcome!.... welcome!) but the phone company here in our little town in Georgia (which is a conglomerate including who knows how many phone companies) does have an office into which one may go and present cash or check and get an instant receipt.

Been reading your blog for a while now. Enjoy it much.

I'm not particularly worried about not being able to talk to someone in person at the phone company. I just find it curious.
