Does anyone know what kind of tree this is? All its leaves start in a pod at the end of each branch. Then the pod opens and the individual leaves start to fan out and expand.
Whatever it is, I want one. Do you have a local botanical gardens? I take my mysteries to our local head gardener at our botanical gardens to identify.
Once the leaves open post another photo. It's easier to ID by the leaf shape & arrangement. Allen J. Coombes, "Trees" is a simple, straight forward tree guide to get you started.

One possibility is that it is a paw paw. But I'm not sure.
Never seen a pawpaw so I just Googled it through the Images and didn't see anything resembling it.

Thanks, Rob, Patrick and Patty. I'll take more photos and see if I can find it.
