Mulberry fingers

Mark Wayne and I join the birds in feasting on mulberries! Now the strawberries and raspberries are ripe too. Mark Wayne says "summer comes in waves." First the trees flower, then the mulberries, the strawberries, raspberries, then FINALLY the tomatoes, and the wild grape, if the beetles don't eat it all.

Doesn't look as if we'll have too many beans. The rabbits and chipmunks have helped themselves pretty well.

YUM! Never tasted a mulberry but the finger paint it leaves looks wonderful!

We planted a "service berry" this spring in a corner in THE BACKYARD (you'll have to read my blog to understand the caps) in hopes to attract robins and cedar waxwings. I tasted one yesterday and it was very nice, too.

My mom used to sing a mulberry tree song to me when I was a kid.

I haven't had mulberries since I was a kid. I am so envious. My favorite berry. Yum!

At least your fingers will eventually lose the stain...lawsamercy that stuff is hell on clothes! It never comes out!
We fight the birds for these babies every season. This year they won, I think. : ( We didn't get enough to even make a decent pie!
